Faculty position, Genetics (No Submission deadline)

A faculty position at the assistant professor level is available in the Department of Genetics and the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center for an outstanding researcher and teacher with expertise in the computational genomics of cancer. The successful candidate must have formal training and experience in computer science and bioinformatics and will join the existing cancer genetics community whose research interests include germ line and somatic aspects of cancer genetics and genomics, population genetics, and high throughput and array based platforms for analysis of the cancer genome, methylome and transcriptome.

The successful applicant will have a M.D., Ph.D. or both and is expected to develop an independent research program and to teach in the Department training program.

Research Assistant 1, Genetics (Job No 8744), Posted 9/8/09, minimum salary is $12.34 (No Submission deadline)

Working under moderate supervision, this individual will perform research studies focused on the control of gene expression in development.

  • Work with Drosophila melanogaster to isolate and characterize genes and gene products.
  • Maintain records of experimental results.
  • Perform many different lab procedures including maintaining Drosophila colonies, isolating DNA, PCR, subcloning, purification of overexpressed proteins in bacterial cells and other related molecular techniques.
  • Maintain test equipment utilized in experiments.

Working under general supervision, plan and carry out cancer genetic research project in accordance with general plans. One of the research objectives of the laboratory is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms through which receptor protein tyrosine phosphatase T mutation lead to cancer development.

REQUIREMENTS
Experience 1 to 3 years of related experience required.
Education/licensing
Bachelor's degree in biological science.

General knowledge in cancer genetic.
Technical Skills
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment.
  • Have proficient skills in molecular biology, protein biochemistry, knockout mice studies, tumor xenografts, imrnunohistochemistry and somatic gene targeting.
